Trading of virtual currency made illegal - in China
I’ve just read this story, it was linked from a WoW site saying about how gold farming was being made illegal in China.
But the implications are potentially huge, here’s an excerpt from the story
Virtual currency, as defined by Chinese authorities, includes “prepaid cards of cyber-games,” according to a joint release issued by China’s Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
“The virtual currency, which is converted into real money at a certain exchange rate, will only be allowed to trade in virtual goods and services provided by its issuer, not real goods and services,” the Ministries said.
This rules out the station exchange style servers from being allowed to operate legally out in China, it also prevents Eve in its current form from being able to be run out in China since you can use in game currency to buy game time.
So far it looks like strangely enough you can buy virtual currency with real money, and the same for virtual items, but its illegal to transfer the money back again. In a perfect world this shuts down gold farmers hard, although how well this is enforced remains to be seen. Its a big surprise for me for this to be coming out of China, it shows it must be a recognised problem out there, wondering whether this will just be enforced for the money launderers, or for the whole gold farming industry.

All crafting systems in Aionare basically the same, but make different things with different materials. They are: Armorsmithing - makes chain/plate; armors uses metals Weaponsmithing - melee weapons; uses metals Tailoring - makes cloth and leather armor; uses fibrousplants/leather Handicrafting - makes bows, staves, and jewelry; useswood/precious metals/gems Cooking - cooks food; uses raw food Alchemy - makes potions; uses plants Crafting is aion kinais actually a lot more interesting than in most games. When crafting, you get adouble-barred window that pops up with 2 bars on it. The top bar shows a blue barand the bottom a purple bar. Depending on your skill level relative to theskill required to make the item, the blue or purple bar will go up. This isdone with the aion kian game rolling adice to see which will move, the blue or purple. If your skill is much higherthan required, the blue bar will take giant leaps while the purple aion kina bar will take little baby stepstowards the end. If your skill is the minimum required, they will move aboutthe same rate depending on which one the dice lands on. If the blue bar reachesthe end first, your little race is over and your item is successfully crafted. If the purple bar wins, you lose the two-bar-race, your items are destroyed, and you get nothing. There are times, however, when something special can happenduring crafting. Occasionally you will get little bursts of luck put into your aion kina blue bar. These can rangefrom an extra increase of regular size, to an entire blue bar filled instantly.Luckily this can’t happen with the purple bar, so you can’t suddenly fail anitem, instead of you have to watch in terror as it works its way in front ofthe pass bar and fails your crafting. There are also special items that can becreated when crafting. For example, say you are cooking some salted trout. Whenyou press the craft button, you can sometimes get a new item started. Nowinstead of just Cooked Salted Trout, you’re making Delicious Cooked SaltedTrout. Obviously delicious food is better than regular food! This can alsohappen with weapons, armor, rings, etc, except instead of becoming aion kina something extra tasty theybecome an item with enhanced properties. If you start crafting, you can’t cancel it. You can stopafter the current item is finished, but you cannot cancel it in any way. Onceyou start making something, your items are on the line, so don’t think you canjust run away if the purple bar is kicking your ass in the race to the finish. Leveling your crafting skill is very painless in aion kina when compared to games like WoW,Darkfall, WAR, or any other MMO that comes to mind. There are 2 ways you canlevel skill in Aion kina. 1) You gather materials, craft items, accept the waste ofyour failed items, and get skill for successes, and sell your items youmade-whether to a vendor or aion kinaplayers. 2) You obtain a work order from the trainer of your skill, the governments of aion kina give youitems, and you craft them for them, get skill for making these items, and giveback the finished product. The second one is unheard of to me at least, and is a verynice way to level your skills without having to go back to all the low levelareas to get materials if you want to level a skill at max level. There is onedownfall however; the government expects you to bring your own tools to createthings for them. For example, at skill level 1 we can make baked apples for thegovernments use. They give you apples, you use their oven, and you’re done. Butat level 10, we need to make salted trout to get skill faster. They aion kina give you the trout, but youneed to buy salt to cook the fish. This is how they keep people from simplyleveling an entire skill tree for free. When using one of these types of crafting, you either getyour own materials and tools, then keep the stuff you make - or you can usesomeone else’s materials with your tools, then just get skill(plus a randomitem). This is a trade-off. You get only skill and lose money if you skill offthe government, as opposed to taking up time and materials to gain aion kina money and skill if you farm yourown materials. If you farm your own materials, you are more likely to findrarer items as you wander. But, the work orders have the little prop of gettinga random item for each turn-in pertaining to the skill level(1p, 10p, 20p, etc)and type of item that you just turned in(Handcrafting, Alchemy, Cooking, etc). This means you can get a tool to use, a material to use, or a new recipe forthe craft you are doing quests for. To sum up how to choose to level your crafting: if you easily find materials but don’t want to get gold -level by crafting your own items. Good for the slow leveler that loves toexplore and have fun while leveling Obviously the higher level you are, the more money you willmake. Therefore; it will be easiest to level by government work if you stay atthe crafting level most closely related to your actual level, since thetools/materials you need to buy will become progressively more expensive. It is offered by www.aionsea.com . I hope it can help you. It would make sense then if everyone was automatically reduced down to the zones level, I’d like that feature since it stops the whole returning back to the big bad evil you faced at level 20 and just one shotting him thing, that sort of destroys a lot of the feel of the game for me. Yet according to this list it appears that you need to go to a home city to setup the automentoring, seems to be a bit confusing, solo mentoring sounds more accurate Hail an NPC in one of the home cities and you will be able to mentor down in 5 level increments (20, 25, 30, 35, etc.) and complete quests, kill named encounters, etc. at the appropriate level. This does not require mentoring another person and will not offer the extra bonuses given to folks who naturally mentor one of their friends. To prepare for this feature, a list of named mobs on long spawns in existing zones is already being assembled to have their timers tweaked. Also, low level contested zones will instance themselves (Sinking Sands 1, 2, 3, etc.) in case of large populations. So not sure here how the PVP servers get effected here, seems like they will need to add in some extra check to prevent it being exploited. One thing though I am really keen to see, they spoke about the new shadow 3.0 models and demo screen shots, if anyone can find and link them I’d appreciate it. Filed under: Fantasy, Video, Age of Conan Tarantia Commons is what he describes as “the urban underbelly” of the capital city of Tarantia, a place Morrison says is “wracked by gang warfare and civil unrest.” In other words, there’s always a lot going on in Tarantia Commons and the video walkthrough shows this, revealing how players will choose which side to take in riots — either aid the city guards or stick it to the man with fellow rioters. The riots then trigger other events. Specific quests become available and certain bosses spawn, depending upon the general state of chaos in the streets of Tarantia Commons. There are two warring gangs in the new gameplay area, The Wharf Rats who exist at ground level in the streets of Tarantia Commons, and The Crows whose area of influence shows off a different aspect of the game: rooftops. Interacting with The Crows above Tarantia Commons gives a different perspective on the city, with some impressive views of the zone. Of course there’s content on the outskirts of Tarantia Commons for players to experience as well, including a leper colony where NPCs will lash out at you, intentionally trying to infect you with disease. As an added bonus, or spoiler depending upon your point of view, the walkthrough also shows off a boss encounter and the tactics he’ll employ against players. If you’re on the fence about returning to Age of Conan to see the new content, this Tarantia Commons walkthrough might just be the tipping point. We’ve got a video embed for you after the jump:

Morrison also drops some hints about the directions Funcom plans to take Age of Conan with future game updates. He writes that the next update to Age of Conan will focus on three main areas: improving guild gameplay; new high level content in the House of Crom; and more goals and objectives with Border Kingdom PvP. Beyond the letter from the game director, Funcom has grouped together a ton of information related to Gangs of Tarantia and AoC in general, which can be found in Issue #23 of the Age of Conan newsletter.

Author: LoNeWoLf Open Beta started June 17th Edited by LoNeWoLf - Today at 4:51am That sounds like a screw up of the highest proportions, on both sides though I’m very suspicious of the whole WoW operation in China. I heard rumours about the whole mess with TheNine with some sort of WoW clone rumoured to be seen on their website, although the MMO changed after the announcement to look like a street fighter 2 MMO - very weird, when I saw it it looked like the sort of front page you could make up in 5 minutes with photoshop, but a real mish-mash of games that makes no sense. Either way TheNine are suing Blizzard in Chinese courts about the loss of the WoW license although the contract was up for renewal anyway so was not cancelled early, but I’d rather not be out there trying to win your case as a foreign company. There had to be some seriously bad stuff going on to cause the loss of contract for starters, and it seems like the Chinese government are involved, they seem very nationalistic over there in that they won’t allow money to go abroad (e.g. their coal technology is crap yet they won’t use their dollar reserves to buy cleaner and more efficient gear from the US when they can buy more garbage from a Chinese firm). There is some sort of weird problem where the government are stopping the Wrath of the Lich King expansion from being released there because of some cultural problem with skeletons being in the game, sounds like a load of bull to me, hence people who can are logging on over in Taiwan to play the expansion. And then there is the whole Chinese gold farming thing, I’m deeply suspicious of this whole thing here, EQ2 at least on the server I play is free of plat farmers and I’ve not received any spam from them in the years I’ve been playing it that I can remember. I think this is a combination of game design (needing status for items, and not being able to buy much with plat from vendors at least at my level that is endgame good). Then on the other hand WoW has a few big ticket gold sinks in it that like epic flying mount (5000g), multi person mount with vendors (~16k gold) and a epic ring that teleports and is raid level (~8k) that are just begging for someone to do a rmt transaction to get. If you log onto any wow server and look around the alliance faction you’ll see corpse art advertising gold selling sites, be spammed at least once every 5-10 minutes in trade channel and be whispered a few times a day to buy gold along with receiving a box full of spam in your in game mail box. This last category of spam is the most puzzling, once its known you’d think it would be simple to just delete anything from that user through the entire server, they already do this when some ones character is deleted yet I’ve seen such gold spam persist for the full 30 days every time. I’m seriously wondering if part of the deal for WoW in China is to turn a blind eye to all this, it could give them Chinese supporters that get the support of the right officials, if its not then they are running the most pathetic attempt at stopping it seen in the history of MMO’s.
if you easily aion kina get gold butdon’t want to go out and get materials - level by working for Aion kina’s ruling body. good for thepower leveler who wants to get as high of a number next to his little pictureas possible before worrying about making things

Age of Conan video walks players through new Tarantia Commons zone

This has been a really big week for Age of Conan. They released Update 5, “Gangs of Tarantia“, which has introduced new zones and content, but more than that, completely reworked some of Age of Conan’s existing game mechanics. The amount of written content that Funcom has put together on these changes is substantial — in fact we linked to all of it in our post on Update 5 earlier this week. Funcom can write all they want about the new changes to the game, but when it comes down to it, actually seeing these places they’ve described may have a stronger impact. With that in mind, Funcom released a video tour of the Tarantia Commons zone today, narrated by game director Craig Morrison.

Age of Conan’s Update 5 goes live, game director hints at future improvements

The fifth major update to Age of Conan,”Gangs of Tarantia“, has gone live. The update adds the Tarantia Commons District, a high level area with both single player and group dungeons, as well as a revamped RPG system. There are substantial system changes that have gone into effect in Update 5, which impact every class in Age of Conan, covering everything from itemization changes to feat trees, as well as abilities, spells, and combos. Plus Funcom has rolled out a complete overhaul of the gem crafting system and introduced new rewards tied in with guild cities. Any in-depth look at the sweeping changes made to Age of Conan with Update 5 is beyond the scope of this post, but are summarized in the patch notes.

PC Games : Jade Dynasty - Built in Bot feature
Subject: Jade Dynasty - Built in Bot feature
Posted: 23 Jun 2009 at 4:46am
Pvp will be more fun with lots of people using this built in bot feature. You can either meditate in town to gain exp over time or set up your esper (quest item) to bot mobs all day. It will auto pickup your item and even attack only quest mobs.
The game has a fishing system, mounting system, pet system, flying system.
It has unique questing system with timed quests and quests where you need to jump onto platforms to finish. Lots of high exp quests later that give over 70% to complete. Easy to make money with book quests daily that sell for 30 silver each book if you vend. Best questing system in any game I’ve played (including perfect world international) Literally THOUSANDS of quests to do.
It also has an auto route system where you click your quest and it takes you to the spot you need to go to kill monsters for quest or to find npc for quest. Auto routing system is one of most unique features I’ve seen in any game.
I am a hardcore grinder, play about 15-18 hours per day in mmorpg’s. Was in best guild of LastHope in Rohan and Lastchaos.
I think no one is giving this game a chance. The movement system is crisp, clean, without lag. WASD with camera movement or not
(able to change in console)
Animations are good, graphics are good, movement, features, quests are good. Notice how I haven’t said great.
I don’t praise games, especially f2p ones, but I need a new game and this one is closed beta and has more potential than some of these other f2p mmorpgs coming out.
I really have nothing to wait for , except priston tale 2 North america, but a lot of the european players said it was very bad. I quit requiem and rohan, so only 1 game left to try and Jade dynasty may be my LastHope of mmorpgs this summer.
I really have no complaints yet. Guilds are small. You can only create a guild with maximum players up to 15. But you can have up to 7 alliances, so if you have good friends you can create 7 total guilds to maximize your gameplay. Not 1 guid will hold a monopoly on this server as many have already made 2-3+guilds.
I’m on the usa west server and they have many channels in each server and I must say I am very surprised by the population on all channels. It’s very high to capacity which shows many people are playing.
I’ll say I am 100% against botting, my guild in Rohan (LastHope) grinded 15+ hours a day just to compete with bots and take them down. In the end, we got most of them banned and forced a ton of other’s to quit causing us to quit cause the population was so low.
With this new wave of botting built into this game, it will definetly help in the end.
One word of advice, use tonna kanas each day and get God’s blessing. It will give you 2 hours of double exp and 8 hours of increased attack and 8 hours of increased defense (crystals tigerin, etc). Once those babies are equipped, you can bot with your esper for 8+ hours taking minimal damage.
I was skeptical playing this game with so much negativety being posted on the onrpg forums, but now after giving it a try with some friends, I decided to play and am extremely happy with my decision. Reply by Lomax :: WoW is afk in China right now.
